About the Firm
Brewster S. Rawls and Edward J. McNelis, III are veterans first, lawyers second.
As veterans, we are committed to making sure all service members, veterans, and their families get the health care they've earned defending our country. Should the VA or military health care systems fail them, Rawls & McNelis will be there to help every step of the way.
As lawyers, we are passionate about what we do. We provide high-quality legal services for claims of inappropriate or negligent health care. We will zealously devote ourselves and the resources of our firm to your case. Our main goal, from our very first meeting with you, remains the same: the best possible settlement or verdict for you and your family.
The attorneys of Rawls & McNelis have over fifty-seven years of combined experience litigating malpractice cases in Federal Court. Our experience makes the difference.
History of the Firm
For more than a dozen years, Rawls & McNelis has been practicing medical malpractice litigation for veterans and their families. With hundreds of cases settled or litigated by our attorneys, few firms can match our depth of experience.
Although we are based in Virginia, we represent clients across the country. That's because one cannot sue the United States in a state court for medical malpractice. All VA medical malpractice cases are federal cases–as such, they take place in a federal court. These cases must follow a process as they fall under the Federal Tort Claims Act, or FTCA.
Practice Areas
Our expertise lies in helping veterans, service members, and their families resolve medical malpractice that occurred in the VA and military health care systems. Many of our cases involve failure to properly diagnose cancer, heart disease, or stroke, or complications resulting from surgery.
Bringing a lawsuit for medical malpractice against the United States is a cumbersome and complicated process. We navigate this process on a daily basis. You can learn more about the steps involved here.
