Bricks and Mortar Are Not What Make a VA Healthcare Facility Good

This article from the Wall Street Journal caught my eye the other day.  The new VA hospital in New Orleans is impressive, a beautiful and modern facility.  Veterans deserve this, no question about that.  However, “bricks and mortar” are not what make a healthcare facility good.  Up to date equipment matters a lot, but by itself modern equipment does not mean patients are getting appropriate healthcare.  What matters the most of the people staffing the hospital and operating that equipment.  Let’s hope that those in New Orleans are up to the challenge.  Otherwise, this beautiful facility is just a façade.
