Report of Increases in VA Settlements

The New York Daily News reported a huge increase in VA settlements. The dollars involved are staggering, but not terribly surprising to those of us in this business.  However, it is sometimes easy to forget that behind all the numbers and statistics are real people. This article is a pointed reminder as we represented one of the families interviewed.  The death of Brian Campeau was both extraordinarily tragic and completely preventable. Fortunately, we got a good settlement for the family, but that money does not come close to filling the hole in their lives.  As lawyers, we are privileged to be able to help people and often we can actually do so, but our best skills and successful cases can never make up for the loss of someone’s son or husband.  On our end, that is a lesson we should never forget.
